LONDON AUSTRALIAN FILM SOCIETY:
 50th ANNIVERSARY SCREENING
Suggested rating: 18
Australia, 1973-2000, Various Directors, 113 minutes

It began in the bowels of Australia House and has since spread across central London, and now the London Australian Film Society is celebrating 50 years of bringing the latest and greatest Australian films to UK audiences.

Partnering with the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), which also celebratied its 50th anniversary, we marked five decades of great Australian cinema with a special selection of newly-restored short films by some of Australia's premier filmmakers and AFTRS alumni, including a trio of films from the inaugural directors’ intake in 1973.

This incredible programme, curated by AFTRS and coming to us direct from the Sydney Film Festival, will include early short films from Gillian Armstrong (My Brilliant Career, Oscar & Lucinda), Sue Brooks (Japanese Story, Road to Nhill), Jane Campion (The Piano, The Power of the Dog), Rob Connolly (Balibo, The Dry), Catriona McKenzie (Satellite Boy, The Walking Dead), Chris Noonan (Babe, Miss Potter), Phillip Noyce (Rabbit Proof Fence, Patriot Games), Ivan Sen (Mystery Road, Goldstone), and Cate Shortland (Somersault, Black Widow).

Australian snacks and sweets were on sale, and a raffle was held before the screening, highlighting a wonderful range of Australian products now available in the UK.

With thanks to the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
